Our Philanthropic Visionaries

The story of Columbus Housing Enterprise began with two extraordinary leaders — Don Kelley and Robert Weiler — whose generosity and foresight continue to shape the future of affordable housing in Central Ohio. As longtime developers, community builders, and philanthropists, they envisioned a way to preserve quality housing for working families while modeling a new kind of generosity in the private sector. By contributing their own properties at half their market value, they set in motion a movement of compassion and innovation.

Their vision challenges all of us to ask: How might we use what we have to make our community stronger for everyone?

Our Partners

The work of Columbus Housing Enterprise would not be possible without the generosity and collaboration of our partners. We are deeply grateful for the organizations, institutions, and individuals who share our vision for a more equitable and thriving Central Ohio. Their leadership, expertise, and commitment help us preserve affordable housing, strengthen neighborhoods, and create opportunities for families to flourish. Together, we are building something lasting — communities where everyone has the chance to call a safe, welcoming place home.

Get Involved

At Columbus Housing Enterprise (CHE), we believe everyone has a role to play in creating thriving, inclusive communities. Whether you’re a developer, a business leader, a nonprofit partner, or simply someone who wants to make a difference, your involvement helps preserve affordable homes and build opportunity for families across Central Ohio.

  • If you’re a property owner or developer, you can make a lasting impact by joining our philanthropic housing model.

    • Sell properties below market value to preserve affordability for working families — following the example of our Philanthropic Visionaries, Don Kelley and Robert Weiler.

    • Partner with CHE to structure creative real estate transactions that maintain long-term community benefit.

    • Collaborate on preservation initiatives that allow existing housing to remain safe, dignified, and accessible for generations to come.

  • CHE thrives through collaboration with public, nonprofit, and faith-based partners who share our mission.

    • Collaborate on resident support programs in education, health, workforce development, or financial stability.

    • Co-sponsor research or policy initiatives that promote naturally occurring affordable housing (NOAH) as a long-term solution.

    • Lend expertise or in-kind services that enhance the lives of residents and the sustainability of properties.

  • CHE’s work is sustained through generosity and trust.

    • Support our resident services — such as job training, childcare, and health partnerships.

    • Fund new preservation projects that expand our reach across Central Ohio.

    • Give toward innovation and research, helping us refine and share this model nationally.

  • Columbus Housing Enterprise works hand-in-hand with city, county, and state agencies to advance housing stability and community health across Central Ohio. By preserving existing affordable housing, CHE complements public investment strategies and helps ensure that limited resources go further.

We welcome partnerships with housing authorities, planning departments, and public development entities to:

    • Preserve and expand affordable housing supply without reliance on new construction subsidies.

    • Coordinate supportive services that improve resident outcomes in health, education, and employment.

    • Collaborate on data, policy, and research initiatives that promote long-term housing affordability.

    • Leverage local, state, and federal tools (such as tax exemptions or financing programs) to sustain NOAH communities.

  • CHE believes that strong communities are built from the ground up.

    • Volunteer with our community partners, helping with food drives, events, or neighborhood beautification.

    • Share your story — residents and neighbors can help others understand the value of preserving affordable homes.

    • Spread the word about CHE’s mission on social media or in your community networks.
